Kew Palace
Kew Palace opened to visitors in April 2006 for the first time in 10 years. This intimate house was the family home of George III from 1801–1818, during his periods of porphyria, diagnosed as ‘madness’. A new welcome centre charts events at Kew and around the world from the building of the house in 1641 to the birth of Queen Victoria in 1819.
The interpretation is largely delivered as an audio drama, complemented by a range of other media such as inscribed chinaware and contemporary news-sheets. Much of the textual interpretation is printed by letterpress in period typesetting to evoke the everyday artefacts of the time.
