Holocaust exhibition, Imperial War Museum
Graphic design of Britain’s only permanent exhibition recording the Nazi Terror in Europe.
This project demanded a new mode of interpretation for the museum. The team developed a design which balanced didactic and emotional narratives in a powerfully experiential environment. The result was a synchronisation of graphic and spatial design to produce an uncommonly readable and affective environment. Artefacts, film footage and photography are embedded in a wide range of graphic and signing techniques to evoke the complex layers of narrative derived from survivors, perpetrators, witnesses and historians.
The project was identified by the National Lottery Commission as a benchmark for interpretive exhibition design, received a D&AD commendation in 2001 and was commended by the European Museum Forum in 2003.
